The Long History of Tripan Somes in African Wild Mammals
A lot of african wild mammals show a degree of tolerance towards tripan somes. This suggests this long association with those right? Like, you would expect that the longer they were together, the more likely it is for them to evolve some sort of tolerance or resistance mechanism. It's thought that this happened when the early ancestors of humans came down from the trees and began to live in the savanna where they would have encountered these parasites. And so there are two variants of a gene that seemd to be especially common in people of afAfrican descent. These variants seem to show signs of positive selection, meaning like they've provided some sort of evolutionary advantage.
