The Importance of Being Different

As a child, you don't want to be different. I remember just sort of people sort of repeating my name in the way my mother said it because she is French. It made me very aware of social differences. They were calling us out for being different for not fitting in. That aspect that drove me to find this more interesting than just languages per se when I went into college.
