What's the Purpose of School Base Education?

Oliver has written a book called dual coding with teachers. He says the purpose of school base education is to provide rounded exposure to core knowledge from various disciplines. Oliver's wife keeps asking oliver, why retire? And at that point i thought, the slightly unique combination of background knowledge that i've acquired is kind of unique.
