By 1867, rabbits were really everywhere and Thomas would have rabbit hunting parties at his estate. Prince Alfred, the Duke of Edinburgh, went on a hunting day in Barwin Park that year and he shot 416 rabbits in three and a half hours. By 1869, the infestation of rabbits was causing property values in some areas to plummet.
