The Difference Between Witty and Clever
My father was very aware of the fact that he had a tendency to be clever instead of witty, but sometimes he struggled with it. In his interviews, he often was trying so hard, and I think I can see now and have compassion, but he was out of his depth. He wasn't a trained interviewer in any way, so he was trying to dazzle the people he interviewed. That was what he was good at. And then you get home and you have all this useless tape because it's just you saying "he's incredibly smart"
