With fiction, i will let myself wander at lat moro. I like a prologue where something bad happens. And then chapter one, we see the protagonist. But equally, it's funny you mention that person who plots the first half of the book. It doesn't matter what works for us. You can be the spread sheet outliner, or you can give yo the complete pancer. Playing with what other people do, i think can really help.
