The issue of how you balance the legitimacy of knowledge and democracy is something that we haven't really resolved. I have heard many politicians say, let science decide which is reassuring and misleading. Science can give you better opinion than a lay person about lets have the risk of catching the virus on thet the risk of dying of it. That is a scientific issue. There may be a range of opinions, but science will help narrow down that range. Does that tell you what the policy should be? Visevi covid, absolutely not. The science is good at defining er the risk. Is it good at telling you what risk you can take? No. It's an essentially political decision.
