After end records closed, the Chantels wanted to carry on. Arlene Smith decided she wanted to go solo instead. Jackie, Renee and Sonja agreed to restart their career. They weren't sure what to do without their lead singer. Richie Barrett told them he would sort it out for them. He had been working with another girl group, The Vaniers, for a couple of years.
