Lieutenant h d brotheridge's platoon were in the first glider. The night at this hour was fine, and although the moon was overcast, visibility was between 30 and forty yards. A few minutes needed to get on to the road were sufficient to rouse the defences across the river. And the charge was met by machine gun fire. There was no hesitation, however, and although brotheridge himself was unfortunately killed. It would seem that we had, it would seem, overestimated the german preparedness here.
