This week marks the end of the french revolution as a great and terrible social experiment that sought to reform, rebuild and remake every aspect of france. The next five years will see multiple uprisings from counter revolutionary royalists, far left proto communists and terminally embittered former jacobins trying to reclaim control they had slipped from their grasp. But like so many other glossed over periods of history that seem to serve as mere preludes to the next big thing, the second half of the 17 nineties is rich in drama.
