What Is Philosophy?

Iam sebastian gardner, i am professor of philosophy at university college london. I'm afraid i have a very unhelpful answer to that, because it's only a negative answer. It's the answer that friedrich schlegel gave in his athenaeum fragments. Philosophy is what i was told as an undergraduate that women couldn't do by an eminent philosopher who had best remain nameless on this site. My understanding of philosophy probably owes more to michael oakshot than anybody else.
