The six possibilities off an FNA for a thyroid nodule are benign, non-diagnostic, follicular cells of undetermined significance, follicular neoplasm, suspicious for malignancy, and malignant. A papillary thyroid cancer is the most common but fortunately has a very good prognosis. It spreads to lymph nodes and rarely metastasizes. The history of radiation to the neck is particularly important for Papillary thyroid cancer.
