The Evolution of Feathers in the Fossil Record
The first feathers that we find in the fossil record are very simple structures. They were probably a way of insulating these small, meat-eating dinosaurs. From your small, you lose body heat to the environment very quickly. So maybe that was maybe it was an adaptation to living in sort of cool environments.
