The Importance of Sentience in Buddhism

There is a debate in contemporary Buddhist environmental ethics about that, and people disagree. If it has no relevance to sentience, then as far as I'm concerned, it has no moral significance. So, I can see, so then we have an obligation to other living things. But do we then not really have an obligated to Mars or Pluto? We could blow them up for all Buddhist ethics is concerned. Or is that maybe that's a silly question.? It's what game to mind.
