Introduction
In the summer of 19 62, the pianist glengould performed at the stratford shakespeare festival in ontario, canada. He gave an abach concert, the second half of which was devoted to excerpts from bach's art o fugue. As the last bars of the last fugue were being heard, he had the lights dimmed all the way to to black. And one or two people ignored gould, but for the most part, the audience didn't clap.
