Finding the Through Line
I decided that only memories, experiences, anecdotes that had to do directly with surviving the white gaze would be in the book. That was the most challenging and also the most freeing for me. So long as you have the emotional fortitude and the clarity of excavating your experience and the integrity, then it makes it somewhat easier to deal with however your family responds. I think a lot of writers have similar role models and inspirations.
