draft of course is the one in which Adley Ruchman was the first overall pick of the Orioles but they hit pretty big with Gunnar Henderson at 40 second overall too that's one of the other big surprises sort of looking back at where players from that class were actually taken of course that draft were being redone today Gunnar Henderson's a top five pick probably we're doing it again

yeah I don't remember I had him on my board might not have had him as a first rounder but I knew people who did there was a lot of talk about him getting into the first round I think the Yankees were one of the teams that had been linked to him and then the Orioles played a little bit of the money game which is like what we're talking about with Pittsburgh right where they made sure that they had enough to go over slot and get Henderson in the I think it was just their straight up second round pick I don't have that in front of me but I think that's correct and he was I mean that is a heck of a one two punch right Ruchman and then Gunnar Henderson if they got nothing else from the draft class if they had just said we're done and just left Baltimore and gone to the Bahamas that that would have been fine that is that is a hell of a day's work for the for the front office there yeah

Kyle Stowers and Joey Ortiz in that draft as well Ortiz was the fourth rounder for them in that class yeah the other big values in that draft Michael Harris went 98th overall to Atlanta how much of that was just Atlanta being where Michael Harris was in high school how much of that is just proximity I

think it's a combination of my guests I haven't spoken anyone in Atlanta specifically about the process with Harris but my guess is they probably saw him a lot more I mean the the philosophy of that organization going back 40 years I think is do not get beat in your backyard right if someone you're not going to get every player out of Georgia but you better have them right you have no excuse not to see those guys Georgia is one of the strongest places for high school baseball talent in the whole country and it's not that big certainly when you especially if you look at where the majority of the players come from it's like a giant circle around Atlanta so you got to see those guys and you got to evaluate them correctly and I know certainly when Roy Clark was there that was a big thing you know we cannot get beat on the guys in the backyard and so I think there's quite a bit of that they do still scout the state of Georgia extremely heavily also they did a really great job on the player development side I mean Harris came on very quickly has made quite a few adjustments we've talked about he's still got clearly got work to do at the plate but that he even got to the big leagues this quickly as a high school product missing 2020 because of COVID and has done what he's been able to do some of that is
