Psychological tricks are something that marketing also teaches us. There's things like social proofing and peer pressure. People don't want to be left out. They migrate to towards people that have the same taste or they have the same sense of being. And so what we tend to do is try to be like other people and buy things that are like other people. Marketing makes people feel desperate and then they will pay higher prices.
