The Two Guiding Lights of Lovecraftian Stories
Lovecraft was obsessed with colonialism he was just particularly obsessed with colonial travel logs so another major common feature of lovecraft stories that you're probably familiar with is that they often come in these epistolary styles. When we talk about that vast unknowing horror it's also a metaphor for the vast teaming masses of the other races i would argue when you see it over and over again in lovecraftian stories where you know it's all a metaphor for colonialism in my opinion.
