Elliot persuaded MI6 to let him write McMillan's speech on the third man. He bundles Eileen and the children into his car, drives them to a safe house then goes back for Philby. Sobers him up and takes him to his mother's flat. Three days later he makes his way to the House of Commons. Elliot: "We all need to end this third man's speculation"
