Gliders and Landing Areas
A lot of people don't realize it isn't necessarily a single farmers field. It's a chunk of land with many fields and pastures for a given unit. A glider pilot was released, or shortly there before he's looking down seeing what the enemy is as best he can tell where the enemy fire might be less. The Germans had not mined that pasture, which I thought was just brilliant. Just brilliant. There are other factors in picking a field to land in, but it was pretty much literally on the fly from anywhere from 500 to 2000 feet up.
