Iconoclasm and the Restoration of the Church in Constantinople

After iconoclasm, an amassic life became an inseparable part of Christian society. Even those who were secluded for the most part monasteries then came out and preached in churches. The empire really did make a comeback after iconoclasm. It probably would have crumbled and fallen apart if it wasn't for certain monasteries within the city at the time.
