"For the first time, I knew absolute and utter hopeless," he writes. "The grandiosity is now gone. I am just a sensitive child, crying in the dark." He says his wife asked him why he couldn't stop drinking but that it was not too late. 'I would have to be locked up somewhere if I were expected to live very long,' he said.
