I Am Growing Courage!

Leona's heart gave a lurch, but she knew what she had to do. She extended an arm and a leg and began climbing the rock face. But even though Leona was standing on the lofty wind-swept summit of the mountain, she couldn't see the monster anywhere. Even though I'm getting closer, it's roar seems smaller too. It doesn't sound nearly as mighty and ferocious. What's going on?
