In 2013 Gess and her colleagues were turfed out the door. She survived on a small payout they gave her until six months later she got a job for a travel agent. The trouble with that industry was that she was putting in a lot of hours to put people's trips together but then people would just take those itineraries and they'd go and book them on the internet so she did all the Mahi and wouldn't get paid anything. So after a year of that she was in dire straits and she didn't have much money leftjust enough to leave the country and come back to New Zealand. Her father had passed away during her time away but her stepmother was still living
