Know the Story Before You Offer Criticism
Don't assume that either you or the speaker know what they're talking about. Give them a chance to get it all out before you jump on it, because they might change their own mind in mid stream. Don't turn the speaker into a straw man. The person who is speaking whatever makes them feel herd doesn't distort anything. Liberalism's biggest challenge is not being seen from a build-up of hating and blaming other people for things we don't like.
