Puppe: We can reject essences alltogether, and therefore not worry about being more or less essential. The essence doesn't exist even to begin with. David doyge likes to point out that he works on the foundations of physics, but he's not a foundationalist. When one says they are working on the foundations in physics, what they mean is they are trying to go still deeper,. But this does not imply they are the literal foundations.
