Birch and Fir Trees in Middle Earth
Frodo and Sam go down a gully to see if it leads anywhere. The ravine is even deeper and longer than they thought, right? But i like this. We're told that some trees survived in here. Most of em are dead from the east winds, that's true. So no, so the fact that these are birches likely isn't too significant, at least not as significant as the fact that they're twisted. Now, on the other hand, the fact that we've got fir trees here might actually be significant, because flora points out. Southern murkwood, which long had been the hidden dwelling of sauron, was dominated by fir trees.
