The Role of Microbiota in Migratory Birds

Migration plays a part in how the microbiome of migratory birds changes throughout their lives. Birds can adapt four times a year, as you say, its entire microbiome to the diet that it has to take in at any given point. It is a huge question on how these birds are so good at moving through these highly variable environments while maintaining a stable gut microbiome or a working gut microbiome.
