The Historical Role of the DGA in Solidarity Negotiations

The DGA has been positioned by the studios to cut a deal first so that they can then pattern that deal on to the other unions. In 2007 when the writers guild was on strike for the main issue was coverage of the internet which is what we now call streaming while we were on strike the DGA went into negotiations and they cut a deal with the AMPTP that included coverage of the Internet but it only got because the writers Guild was on strike. That's sort of the historical role the DGA has played I think that's less likely to happen this year because the issues that the writers guild are striking over aren't as pressing anymore.
