The Importance of Humanism in the Teaching of History

In 10th grade, modern world history in New York is taught from a Eurocentric perspective. But it also addresses what's going on in America during the so-called Age of Exploration. The building I work in is called Erasmus Hall and it's named after the father of humanism. What does humanism not include in terms of other ways of thinking about the world? That's one of the big questions we work through.
