For every person who identifies with a political or communal form of anti consumerism, there are dozens more who are solo operators. Helena cho dropped out of a well remunerated career in san francisco in the mid 19 nineties. She found a job taking tickets at a movie theatre, and late at t wove through the citys streets with a garbage bagful of left over popcorn balanced on her handle bars. Now she lives in a row of five houses whose occupants have an informal, co operative living arrangement. It's called the truck farm. They share an enormous back yard where many of them raise food, and there's a communal washing machine and dryer to which they all contribute
