John smith's overety had a profound effect on labor history. He stood for the leadership against e brian gould, and won very convincingly. But he found himself in this enormous fight with the biggest unians at the time. The left have been perhaps too quick to claim his legacy. John never wanted to do that, but that's how the of the change described it. It was clear when he took over there were things that they still needed to be done.
