The Evolution of the GPL License
The laissez-faire licenses are more aligned with the modern open source movement which includes a lot of corporations. Corporations don't want to buy into this viral license because they want to still write some proprietary software. A lot of people who are more on the philosophical side prefer the copy left licenses. Most new open source software that you see is under some kind of laisseZ-faire license rather than a copy left license.
