I had written articles that were sort of out of step with the predominant left-leaning zeitgeist for years and years. In which I basically said, what Jason Riley says later, please stop helping us. That's a point of view that would get me in deep trouble today,. But back in 2009 when I published that book, you could still get away with saying that sort of thing. And the students had a very different attitude too. Students hadn't been gripped by this woke ideology that outcome of result for all groups absolutely has to be achieved by hook or by crook. They hadn't hardened their commitment to that.
