The High Concentration of Lithium in Clays

There's a lot of lithium in clays, for sure, but it's very expensive to process. The growth over the last decade has principally been supplied by brines. High concentration brines are more than 500 parts per million. They're produced at high elevations where evaporation and evaporating water leave behind dissolved lithium. But they can be processed with 25 times as much water compared to low-concentration brines. That means that supply is being curtailed rather than increased.
