You've got to leave it all on the field. That's the way people are going to know that you really mean it. You can distinguish yourself remarkably by not being and, again, underlying your point, giving it all. Look for something that really nags at you. It reminds me a bit of the author howard bloom who says, basically, what you ought to do is look at things right under your nose as if you had never seen them before.
