The Evolution of Japanese Emoji

I didn't know these monkeys are part of the big contingent of Japanese emoji because I think people don't really think about it. But if you look at the whole keyboard, it's really heavy on Japan specific stuff. It's a low key way that Japanese culture has become an even bigger thing in the world. The original meaning of those things don't always transfer. So then we may ascribe some kind of new meaning or a meaning that goes completely contrary to the original meaning.
