What's the Imprint of the Past?
Even if you don't understand it, there is still that imprint of the past. At swincom down there's an old entrenchment. And i think one of the other stories i loved particular in your book was the thing about the settlement at wyfold. It looks as though it might have had some religious connotation at a time when people travelled up from the vale. Yes, absolutely. Er, so there's a kind of popular memory, isn't there? I mean, i think documents start to matter more ad more, but for peasants, popular memory matters.
