Many miners in Africa simply extract raw materials and move them out of the African country at the lowest possible value. Companies like Pensano and Leskommen Metals have to compete on price - China's rare earths are as cheap as chips. Increasingly, manufacturers and consumers want to know that material and final products are ethically sourced and environmentally friendly.
