What Caused the Crimean War?
The origins of the Crimean War go back well into the 18th century. They start with the Russian invasion of the Crimea in the 1780s. The capture of Sevastopol, which then became the base of a new Russian Black Sea fleet posed a serious strategic threat to the Ottoman Empire. After 1815, Britain and Russia are the two dynamic powers in the global system.
