The Effects of Rewards on Performance in an Educational Setting - Is There a Difference?

An economist at Harvard tried this stuff out and they were doing things like providing monetary rewards or some other form like buying pizza. They found that intrinsic motivation wasn't actually harmed at all apparently in these different cases so that makes me think againOkay that's interesting but specifically in the case when they're providing the inputs so if somebody does more homework than they get more money then what happens is their grades went up  and their intrinsic motivation isn't affected. In the case where you do it based on outputs saying if you get a higher grade or pay you more there was no effect on grades so that's very similar to an experiment about throwing balls at a target.
