The History of the Volksbund Movement
The Great Depression was a turning point for the Volksbund movement, just like it was in many other things. In Austria, changes were also being made, with a shift away from supporting full union with Germany and instead throwing their support behind simply maintaining good relations with their larger northern neighbor. This resulted in a very divided nation, not just politically, but also between Vienna and other areas. Just like in other nations, this increase in violence from the left was answered by an increasingly militant right.
