The transatlantic slave trade is probably the single most important event both in terms of its scale brutality legacies etc you know doesn't need me to go into any of that it's so self-evident. It was partly to do with the resilience of states in West Africa to keep the Europeans away for hundreds of years. People who came from disease infected and disease compromised parts of West Africa had much longer life expectancies than other people from Africa, he says.
