Historically, it has been for women to marry a man who is half a step above him in social status. And suddenly you have more women getting, for your, college degrees than men. Theyre simply not enough highly successful, highly educated men to go around for les women. You end up with problems of family formation and so on. So the phenomenon you're referring to has the incredibly unromantic label of assortative mating. It its like not something to put on your tender profile seeking to a sortatively mate.
