Introduction
Turkic peoples are most obviously recognised in today's world as the dominant ethnicity of the modern nation of Turkey. The populations of other countries such as Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan can be described largely as Turkic. Many scholars debate the exact origin though. Genetic studies point towards connections between Turkic speakers and people's mentioned in historical literature including the historical Mongolic peoples.
