There are very few stories in which a character has his or her fortune read and a happy result from that experience. The exception is when the fortuneteller turns out to be Mr. Rochester in drag. Evans here decides to take matters into his own hands because he thinks nobody else is preventing a crime. He should actually have a good head on his shoulders, you know, I mean, we're very much in his head during all of this.
