The legal argument put forward uses a lot of ithink, sarcasm and just kind of a, you know, how can anybody else hold a different opinion to what i'm saying? One line of text that really puts that to me is a, did the killer avenge his personal wrongs because the contract touched his patrimony, or because he was losing a slave from his family establishment? Let us go the full way and pronounce the owner justly slain. It's clear tacitus does not expect his audience to buy these claims.
