Sri Lanka as a Child
My parents left Sri Lanka in the late 60s, early 70s and I'm the youngest of three we were born and raised in the UK. We used to write letters to our cousins that we didn't always know and then almost every year we managed to go back on holiday. After 85 it became dangerous to kind of go there. But I remember vividly like having read the Narnas which I'd never seen before. Lots of little bananas and fruit and yeah lots of dishes that I hadn't ever kind of seen before. That idea of seeing things that are familiar but also totally new is a thrill.
