Ingrid Bergman and Victor Laszlo in Casablanca
classical Hollywood was very codified at this level everything was possible to say it even if everything was prohibited like prostitution. When somebody says this woman is from New Orleans it meant prostitute or for example homosexuality was not allowed to be mentioned even as a topic but the sign was when somebody remarks about another man doesn't he wear a perfume didn't he put perfume on it meant gay and so on. The nice thing is how this ambiguity uh is maintained up to the end in the final confrontation of the three of them Humphrey Bogart Ingrid Bergman and Victor Laszlo in Casablanca airport.
